THE 2008 FAIR WILL BE HELD AUGUST 29  THROUGH SEPTEMBER 1

Regardless as to what you may have heard or read the 82nd ROSHOLT FAIR, the OFFICIAL PORTAGE COUNTY FAIR, will be held as always without any changes of venue. Please see the 2008 Fair page for all schedules.

                                                   2007 marked our 81st Fair

The Fair is ALWAYS held over the Labor Day Weekend beginning Friday afternoon and runs through Monday afternoon.

The Rosholt Fair was begun by action of the Rosholt Advancement Association at a meeting held on May 10th of 1921. At this meeting it was decided to hold a picnic in conjunction with the the Portage County Guernsey Breeders Association to be held on June 15th of that year. As this was a success it was further decided to make this "Fair" an annual event. The Fair became an Official Fair by action of the committee on July 11 of 1922 when it was decided to move the date of this event to Labor Day  and be known as the "Rosholt Community Free Fair". Receipts for this first Fair were $228.76 and expenses were $226.46 leaving a profit of $2.30. This profit was considered a "decided success"!

The years have passed and the Fair has grown into one of the larger 4H Fairs in the State as well as being designated the "Official Portage County Fair". We are very proud of these facts and work hard to preserve a homey atmosphere for the kids as this IS a 4H and FFA Fair

We are now known simply as the Rosholt Fair Association, Inc. and there is very little that is free any more, especially in light of  State funding cuts. However, the $2 gate admission charged Friday through Sunday (with FREE parking) and Monday being FREE,  is probably the least expensive of any Fair in the entire State. We're kind of proud about that too.

The Fair Association is responsible for the upkeep of the Park and building facilities. This is a very expensive proposition and without MANY hours of volunteer labor it would be even more difficult. If YOU have done volunteer work at the Park or Fair be assured, it is GREATLY appreciated.

I like it up here :-)

Here's ONE reason KIDS (parents too) LOVE a FAIR..............a 760kb WMV 12 second movie of a child's first ride on the Kiddy Cars....

Nice to meet you TOO!A GREAT place to meet NEW friends as well as old..........................

.........and have a GOOD TIME!!!

Less than one day after the 2007 Fair we received the email, copied below in its entirety, from a Ron B somewhere in Minnesota. We don't know who you are Ron, but your email made us feel pretty darn good!

FROM RON: I'm sending this e-mail because I want to thank you all for the Rosholt Fair. My family has been coming to the Rosholt 'Worlds' Fair for 30 years. I was about 7 my first time and I look forward to the fair every year. I will continue to attend the Fair and will always enjoy every second that I am there. We come to Rosholt from central and northern Minnesota. My Dad, aunts, and uncles lived in Rosholt when they were young. And we all love and look forward to the Rosholt Fair every Labor Day weekend. Again, Thank You for another Fantastic Labor Day weekend.

And from MARY:  Mailed from Chicago

Dear Folks,
My love affair with the Rosholt Fair goes back to my childhood , in the 40's, when my parents always attended.
This year a young couple from Mundelein, Illinois, enjoyed it with us.
The "vintage" display hall, the 4-H efforts-the Polka bands, the chickens, ducks, pigs, cows----all wonderful memories from a beautiful location on top of the hill in all ways.
Thank you Norma and all who participate in the huge effort.  A+++

Mary ****
